Journey overview

A palace city and the coffee hills

Mysuru and Coorg are the two places most travellers from Bengaluru want to see, and they make a natural pair: the palace, markets and royal history of Mysuru, then the cooler air and coffee estates of Kodagu. Two nights at each turns a rushed weekend into a proper short trip.

It is deliberately a two-base journey. With ten nights or more, Karnataka Classic adds Kabini, the Hoysala temples and Hampi; for a slower pace with three nights at each stop, see Gentle-Pace Karnataka.

Route summary

  1. Mysuru — 2 nights, via Srirangapatna if you wish
  2. Coorg — 2 nights in the coffee estates
  3. Back to Bengaluru

Bengaluru to Mysuru is approximately 3–4 hours, Mysuru to Coorg 3–4 hours, and Coorg back to Bengaluru 5–6 hours, depending on traffic and stops.

Mysuru & Coorg highlights

Mysuru Palace and the old city

The palace, Devaraja market and Chamundi Hill, with a private guide if you wish, and Srirangapatna on the drive in.

Somanathapura, if pacing allows

The Hoysala Keshava temple, approximately an hour from Mysuru, as an optional half-day for travellers who enjoy architecture.

Coorg coffee country

Plantation walks, viewpoints over the hills and slow afternoons, with the Golden Temple at Bylakuppe on the way in if you wish.

Day by day

Day by day: recommended 4-night plan

Drive times are approximate and depend on traffic and stops. Every day can be adjusted to your flights and pace.

Day 1 · Bengaluru to Mysuru

Your chauffeur collects you from your Bengaluru hotel or Kempegowda International Airport (from the airport, allow extra time to cross the city). Approximately 3–4 hours to Mysuru, with a stop at Srirangapatna if you wish, and the evening free. See Mysuru.

Overnight: Mysuru

Day 2 · Mysuru

The palace in the morning, then Devaraja market and Chamundi Hill, with a private guide if you wish. Optional: a half-day at the Hoysala temple at Somanathapura (approximately 1 hour each way) in place of the afternoon rest.

Overnight: Mysuru

Day 3 · Mysuru to Coorg

Approximately 3–4 hours into the hills of Kodagu, with an optional stop at the Golden Temple at Bylakuppe. Check in and spend the afternoon at rest. See Coorg.

Overnight: Coorg

Day 4 · Coorg

A coffee plantation walk, the viewpoint at Raja’s Seat, Madikeri fort or a waterfall when the season is right, or simply a slow day where you are staying.

Overnight: Coorg

Day 5 · Coorg to Bengaluru

Approximately 5–6 hours back to Bengaluru with stops. Kempegowda International Airport is north of the city, so we suggest an evening or night flight, or a final night in Bengaluru.

Duration options

Shorter or longer versions

The recommended plan is 4 nights. 3-night and 5-night variations can be planned. We do not add a third destination: the point of this route is time in two places.

3 nights

One night in Mysuru

One night in Mysuru and two in Coorg, or the other way round. The palace and Chamundi Hill fit into the arrival afternoon and the next morning.

5 nights

An extra night where you want it

A third night in Coorg for a full day of nothing, or a third night in Mysuru for Somanathapura without hurrying.

Flexibility and customisation

Use this plan as a starting point. Common changes include:

  • Adding Somanathapura or Srirangapatna at a slower pace
  • A first or last night in Bengaluru, near the airport if that suits your flights
  • Adding or removing nights at any stop
  • Swapping a stop for one that better suits your interests
  • Adding airport transfers at either end of your trip
  • Continuing to other parts of India, with ground services arranged through vetted partners

Private guides can be arranged for selected heritage, cultural and city visits.

Senior & family pacing

Travelling with seniors or young children

We can plan slower mornings, shorter driving days, fewer stops and an extra night where it helps. Tell us about any mobility needs when you enquire so we can suggest suitable stays and visits.

Two nights at each stop mean only two moving days and the drive home. For seniors and young children we plan later starts where practical, keep the palace and temple visits short, and can add a third night in Coorg so the last day is not rushed.

Inclusions & exclusions

What your quotation covers

Inclusions and exclusions are confirmed in your quotation based on the selected route, vehicle, hotel option and travel plan.

Your quotation sets out:

  • The vehicle category and driver arrangements
  • Whether hotels are included and, if so, their comfort level and locations
  • Your day-by-day route and timings
  • Any guides, entry tickets or activities you ask us to arrange

Pricing & payment

Pricing depends on route, vehicle category, dates and travel requirements, so every booking starts with a tailored quote. A booking is confirmed once the required advance payment is received and South Zone Holidays issues confirmation in accordance with the agreed quotation and service availability. The advance amount and balance terms are stated on your quotation. We accept international credit and debit cards, bank transfer and UPI.

FAQ

Questions about Mysuru & Coorg

It is possible, but the drives add up to roughly 11–14 hours over the trip, so two nights leaves little time at either place. Three nights is the shortest version we suggest; four is better.

Yes. The airport is north of the city, which makes Coorg to the airport a long day, so we plan around an evening or night flight, or a final night nearby.

They can be planned as a separate trip, but this route keeps to two bases on purpose. For a longer journey through more of Karnataka, see Karnataka Classic.

Opening hours and illumination evenings are set by the palace authorities and can change; we check them for your dates and plan the visit around them.

It is optional. Your chauffeur is not a guide, but a private guide can be arranged for Mysuru Palace and Somanathapura.
