This is the short Kerala trip for travellers who want the backwaters and the coast and nothing else: no hill roads, no early starts and no drive much longer than two hours. It suits the end of a longer India journey, a few days after a family visit or a wedding, or a first taste of Kerala on a short break.
The route makes one easy loop from Cochin International Airport: a night by Vembanad lake at Kumarakom, a second night on the water by houseboat or at a lakeside resort, then two nights at Marari, a quiet stretch of sand and fishing villages a short drive north of Alleppey. Your chauffeur stays with you from arrival to departure.

Day 1 · Arrive Kochi, transfer to Kumarakom
Your chauffeur meets you at Cochin International Airport and drives you to Kumarakom on Vembanad lake (approximately 1.5–2 hours, depending on traffic). Check in, rest, and watch the sunset from the jetty. See Alleppey and Kumarakom.

Day 2 · Kumarakom to the houseboat
A country-boat ride through the village canals in the cool of the morning if you wish. Around midday, board your houseboat for an afternoon cruise and an overnight mooring, or stay a second night at a lakeside resort instead. Boat category, cruise length and meals are as stated in your quotation.

Day 3 · The backwaters to Marari beach
Disembark in the morning and drive 30–45 minutes from Alleppey to Marari beach (from a Kumarakom resort, allow approximately 45–60 minutes, depending on traffic and hotel locations). The rest of the day is free.

Day 4 · Marari
A free day: an early walk along the beach, a cycle through the coconut groves and fishing villages, or Alleppey town and its canals in the late afternoon. Sea conditions vary with the season, so follow local advice before swimming.

Day 5 · Depart Kochi
Drive to Cochin International Airport (approximately 1.5–2 hours) for your onward flight. With a late flight, a few hours in Fort Kochi can be added first; see Kochi.

2 nights
The backwaters only
Kumarakom, then a houseboat or second lakeside night, and back to Kochi airport (approximately 1.5–2 hours from Alleppey). Useful as a short stopover between flights.
3 nights
Backwaters and one beach night
Kumarakom, the houseboat or a resort night, then a single night at Marari before the airport. Or skip the houseboat and spend two nights at Marari.
5 nights
On to the southern coast
Kumarakom and the houseboat, then three nights at Varkala or Kovalam (approximately 3–4 hours south) and departure from Thiruvananthapuram. Or add a night in Fort Kochi to the recommended plan.

Travelling with seniors or young children
We can plan slower mornings, shorter driving days, fewer stops and an extra night where it helps. Tell us about any mobility needs when you enquire so we can suggest suitable stays and visits.
Every drive on this route is about two hours or less, and two nights at Marari give a full rest day. Later starts are easy to arrange, sightseeing can be reduced to nothing at all, and the houseboat can be replaced by a resort night if stepping on and off a boat is a concern.
