Journey overview

Kerala’s five landscapes in one unhurried loop

This is the Kerala-first journey: the state on its own, at a pace that lets each landscape register. It starts in Kochi with a day in the old port, climbs to Munnar for two nights in the tea estates, crosses the spice hills to Thekkady and the Periyar reserve, then drops to the backwaters, where a night in a lakeside resort at Kumarakom is followed by a night on a houseboat from Alleppey. Two nights at Marari beach close the loop, 1.5 to 2 hours from Kochi airport.

Every drive is a hill or coastal road rather than a highway, so days are built around the transfer: morning on the road with stops, afternoon free. The houseboat is one recommended way to see the backwaters, not a requirement; a second resort night is the alternative. The journey can also finish on the southern coast at Varkala or Kovalam and fly out of Thiruvananthapuram, which adds a night and avoids returning to Kochi.

Route summary

  1. Kochi — 2 nights
  2. Munnar — 2 nights
  3. Thekkady — 2 nights
  4. Kumarakom — 1 night
  5. Alleppey houseboat — 1 night (or a second resort night)
  6. Marari beach — 2 nights, then Kochi airport

Alternative finish (11 nights): after the houseboat, 3 nights at Varkala or Kovalam, departing from Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum). A 9-night version drops one Thekkady night; 12 nights add a third night at Munnar or on the coast.

Senior & family pacing

Travelling with seniors or young children

We can plan slower mornings, shorter driving days, fewer stops and an extra night where it helps. Tell us about any mobility needs when you enquire so we can suggest suitable stays and visits.

No day combines a long drive with major sightseeing: transfers are mornings with stops, and afternoons are free. Hill roads are taken slowly, the houseboat is optional for anyone who prefers a fixed bed, and the two beach nights at the end are deliberately empty.

Inclusions & exclusions

What your quotation covers

Inclusions and exclusions are confirmed in your quotation based on the selected route, vehicle, hotel option and travel plan.

Your quotation sets out:

  • The vehicle category and driver arrangements
  • Whether hotels are included and, if so, their comfort level and locations

  • Any guides, entry tickets or activities you ask us to arrange

Pricing & payment

The advance amount and balance terms are stated on your quotation. We accept international credit and debit cards, bank transfer and UPI.

FAQ

Questions about Kerala Classic

Ten nights sees the five landscapes without rushing. Seven or eight nights is possible with one night at Thekkady and no beach; two weeks allows Wayanad or the southern coast as well. We plan around your dates rather than the other way round.

No. It is one recommended way to experience the backwaters. A second night at a lakeside resort with a day cruise or canoe trip is the alternative, and suits anyone who prefers a fixed bed or has mobility concerns.

Kochi keeps the loop short (Marari is 1.5 to 2 hours from the airport) and Kochi has more international flights. Thiruvananthapuram suits travellers who want three nights on the southern coast, or who are continuing into Tamil Nadu. Both are published above; your quotation follows the one you choose.

A private, air-conditioned vehicle chosen by group size, with an English-speaking chauffeur; where operationally appropriate the same driver stays with you throughout. Drivers are not licensed guides; private guides are available on request for Fort Kochi and the plantations.

Yes. Vehicle and driver only is always possible; we plan the route and timings around the hotels you book. Or we include hotels, the houseboat and the resort by comfort level, location, budget and availability in one quotation.

Yes. Two nights at most stops, short free afternoons and no safari drives. Tell us about mobility needs and we will adjust the houseboat, the plantation walks and the hotels.

December to February is the driest and most comfortable across hills, backwaters and coast. March to May is hot on the coast but pleasant in Munnar and Thekkady. The monsoon from June to September brings heavy rain, green hills and fewer visitors, with some activities paused; October and November are post-monsoon with showers. We do not promise weather, and plan outdoor days with alternatives.

Pricing depends on route, vehicle category, dates and travel requirements. Your quotation will clearly state the vehicle, route, duration, inclusions and any applicable extra charges.
